A new era for the ship, bishops sutton

A welcome note from Kelly

Welcome to The Ship, Bishops Sutton. You may have known the pub through its many iterations over the years—always a cornerstone of the local community.

In late 2024, I became the new publican of The Ship. I’ve always been drawn to beautiful spaces, meaningful gatherings, and exceptional food—the kind of meals that linger in your memory.

So, when the opportunity to take on The Ship came my way, it felt serendipitous. A place where my passions—hospitality, people and spaces—could meet, and where I could share them with you.

The Space

Redesigning The Ship gave me a chance to fuse my interior design experience with my love of characterful, welcoming spaces. I wanted to create an environment that invites you in the moment you arrive—somewhere you’ll feel comfortable staying, whether for a short pause or a long, leisurely visit.

The pub’s rich history inspired every design decision. Wherever possible, I’ve chosen antique and pre-loved furnishings that reflect its heritage. In other areas, I’ve introduced more contemporary touches—like the former stables, now transformed into The Ship Studio: a flexible space for coffee, private dining, and creative workshops.

Step inside the main pub and, I hope, you’ll feel a deep sense of welcome—a space to relax, connect, and enjoy some of life’s simple pleasures. You can read more about the pub’s interior design journey here.

The Warmth

The Ship is both a hub for the Bishop’s Sutton community and a destination for visitors.

Our friendly team is here to make you feel at home, whether you’re popping in for a drink or staying for a three-course meal. We want every guest to leave feeling they’ve been greeted by friends and nourished in every sense.

One of our favourite rituals is The Sunday Table—a weekly communal dining experience. Each Sunday, we host a shared table with a set three-course menu. You’ll sit shoulder to shoulder with familiar faces and new ones alike. Come alone, bring friends or family—everyone is welcome.

The Food

Our menu is the heart of The Ship.

From my early fascination with flavour to my love of seasonal ingredients and refined simplicity, every dish is guided by a respect for produce and the joy of eating well.

Each menu celebrates what’s best at any given time of year—prepared with care, allowing the ingredients to shine. Think snacks like Ham Hock Doughnuts with piccalilli, small plates for sharing, and mains that showcase honest, exceptional components.

Dining with little ones? Our children’s menu is as thoughtful as the rest, offering playful twists on familiar favourites.

The Drinks

Provenance matters. Our wine list features organic and biodynamic bottles from vineyards we admire and trust.

The same care goes into our beer selection—curated from producers who share our love for quality. For cocktail lovers, we offer timeless classics to suit the moment—whether you’re toasting something special or simply enjoying a pre-dinner aperitif.

We’ve also put real thought into our non-alcoholic range, offering grown-up alternatives like alcohol-free beer, cider, and refreshing soft drinks.

Come and Visit

We’re opening our doors this August—a golden, late-summer moment, full of life and colour, as we edge into the cosy charm of autumn and winter. For me, there’s no better time to enjoy a pub.

If you’ve made it this far, I hope it’s sparked a desire to visit us soon. Whether you’re saying hello, dropping in for a drink, or settling in for dinner, my team and I can’t wait to welcome you.

Book a table today, follow us on Instagram, and explore more of our Stories to get to know us better.

Thank you for the warmest welcome—I’m truly excited for this new chapter at The Ship.
